The client lives in Victorian terraced house and was interested in updating their garden to make better use of the space and to indulge their love of growing their own fruit and flowers. The key requirements included:

  1. A design that took into consideration the long-term plan of building a single story side-extension for live-in owner while also catering to existing layout and rental tenants who currently live in the property .
  2. Provide privacy from the neighbours.
  3. Provide separate spaces in the garden and a reason to explore the space.
  4. 4. Create an area for socialising and entertaining to capture afternoon setting sun.

    5. Create a breakfast nook / coffee area to take advantage of the morning sun.

    6. Plant a selection of fruit trees (apples, pears, apricot, plums, etc) that can be trained to walls and provide grow your own fruit.

    7. Difficult Access: Keep in mind that all material removed and added to site needed to go through flat with narrow hallways. No machinery, all hand done.

    8. Wildlife, bird-friendly and eco-friendly.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Performed onsite assessment of space and materials, including detailed measurements.
  • Produced detailed scale drawings of proposed design and planting layout as well as 3D Perspective drawings for consideration.
  • Costed up initial designs and made adjustments to keep to budget
  • Developed phased plans to undertake work in stages
  • Source fencing, trees & plants

Primrose Hill

Design & Build Estimate: £30,000-35,000
The client lives in a grade-II listed property on the grounds of Primrose Hill and was interested in updating their garden to make better use of the space. The key requirements included:

  1. A design that took into consideration the long-term management plan of Primrose Hill & Regent's Park that The Royal Park's (TRP) Management would approve of.
  2. Garden receives a varying degree of sunlight. Some space are in full sun, some complete shade and other spaces partial sun/shade so planting the right plant in the right space was key.
  3. Create an area for socialising and entertaining that takes into consideration the open nature and security of the site.
  4. Low maintenance, toddler-friendly and eco-friendly.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Performed onsite assessment of space and materials, including detailed measurements.
  • Produced detailed scale drawings of proposed design and planting layout as well as 3D Perspective drawings for TRP's consideration.

Belsize Park

Design & Build cost: £20,000
The client had an existing garden where the wooden railway sleeper retaining wall had rotted away. Client wanted to demolish and remove existing beds and plants, rebuild the raised beds with more long-lasting stone and replant the area to give more colour and vibrancy to the space. The key requirements included:

  1. Create screening and privacy without making the space feel smaller or boxed in.
  2. Garden receives a varying degree of sunlight. Some space are in full sun, some complete shade at base of fence and other spaces partial sun/shade so planting the right plant in the right space was key.
  3. Create an area where their dog can lay in the bed without trampling the plants.
  4. Low maintenance, eco-friendly and working to strict budget.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Performed onsite assessment of space and materials
  • To save on design visualisation costs, produced mood board of proposed plants instead of 3D plant design.
  • Costed up initial design and made adjustments to keep within budget.
  • Sourced supplies and materials, demolished and removed existing beds, carted materials & supplies through house (while keeping dust and disruption to a minimum), installed new stone wall infilled with new soil, and planted up.
  • Return on a quarterly basis for after-care ongoing maintenance

The client had built a new contemporary extension to their home with glass sliding doors opening onto a small fenced in patio that was overlooked by neighbours on all sides. The key requirements included:

  1. Create screening and privacy without making the space feel smaller or boxed in.
  2. Garden gets a limited amount of sunlight, especially in the winter so plant selection was vital.
  3. Create an area where adults can feel comfortable socialising, have evening drinks and bbq.
  4. Low maintenance, eco-friendly and working to strict budget.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Performed onsite assessment of space and materials
  • Produced detailed scale drawings of proposed design, construction details and planting layout broken down by seasonal interest.
  • Costed up initial design and made adjustments to keep within budget.
  • Sourced supplies and materials and planted up.
  • Return on a quarterly basis for after-care ongoing maintenance

1) The Guangzhou Garden, winner Gold Medal and *Best-In-Show*
2) RHS’s Queen’s Green Canopy Garden (non-judged) supporting Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee initiative to 'Plant a Tree for the Jubilee'
3) Pots and Pithoi - 5 Star Trade stand

Tasks undertaken:
-Helped lay out and mark tree, plant and path positions
-Prepared and graded ground for planting as per plan
-Pruned, cleaned and prepared plants for planting
-Determined plant layouts and design in certain sections of The Queen's Green Canopy Garden
-Arranged and planted up pots for Pots & Pithoi Trade stand, including plant, clean and prepare wildflower green roof.

Ascot

The client had built a new extension to their home a few years prior but had not yet had a chance to renovate their garden. The time had come when they had the money and availablity to make the changes they wanted to their outdoor space to make it fit more with how they wanted to live and use their garden. The key requirements included:

  1. Incorporate the existing woodland into the garden more, so that there was less stark line delineating the woodland from the rest of the garden..
  2. Create an area where they could establish a kitchen/vegetable garden so they could grow their own more.
  3. Create an area where adults could go to for evening GnTs.
  4. Maintain a sizeable lawn area for kids to play on.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Produced scale drawings of existing site
  • Produced detailed scale drawings of proposed design, construction details and planting layout broken down by seasonal interest.

Design & Build estimate: £5,500-6,000

The client's back garden had been designed around 2010 and plants needed updating and refreshing. Box-moth caterpillar had destroyed a low box hedge which needed replacing and the shrubs in the raised planting beds were not thriving. The task was to refresh and reinvigorate the planting for year round interest for this contemporary flat.

  1. Replace box hedge with box-like alternative.
  2. Remove and replace shrubs which were dying.
  3. Design a planting scheme which provided year round interest.
  4. To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

    • Performed assessment of existing plants and light, including a sunlight/shadow analysis to ensure selected plants could handle the available light.
    • Produced mood board of suggested plants
    • Produced detailed perspective drawings of what the design would look like from the different viewing points.
    • Sourced plants and supplies and potted up

The client recently moved back into their house after having renters in it for a number of years. The small inner courtyard patio was bare and unloved. The client wanted to create a welcoming space to not only enjoy morning coffee/evening drinks but also provide a place to work outside from home. Key deliverables included:

  1. Provide an area in the sun for table and chairs.
  2. Maintain privacy from the neighbours while not blocking light.
  3. Have colourful potted plants around the patio
  4. Include specific plants that provide visual interest year round, as the patio is overlooked on 2 sides from the inside of the house
  5. To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

    • Performed onsite assessment of existing site, including a sunlight/shadow analysis to ensure selected plants could handle the light available
    • Produced mood board of suggested plants
    • Produced detailed perspective drawings of what the design would look like from the different viewing points in the house.
    • Sourced plants, containers and supplies and potted up as proposed

The client was undertaking a new modern glass extension and wanted to use the opportunity to also transform their outdoor space to better suit how they live. The key requirements included:

  1. Provide an area in the sun for evening drinks.
  2. Maintain privacy from the neighbours while not blocking light.
  3. Maintain views of the surrounding woodland and heath.
  4. Include specific plants that hold relevance to homeowners.
  5. Create an area to play Bocce.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

Our client was undertaking a complete home and garden renovation. We were responsible for designing and planting the back garden.

We worked with our clients to understand how they wished to use their outdoor space and created a design within their stated budget to achieve their aims, which included:

  1. Maximise lawn space for their kids to play on.
  2. Maintain a nice border to provide year-round interest and colour.
  3. Provide privacy from neighbours.
  4. Include specific plants that hold relevance to homeowners.
  5. Keep within modest budget.

To achieve this we performed the following tasks,

  • Performed onsite assessment of existing trees and plants
  • Measured and produced scale drawings of existing site
  • Produced detailed scale drawings of proposed design and planting layout
  • Coordinated deliveries and work schedule with other onsite tradesmen to do the garden build at best time possible
  • Sourced plants and shrubs
  • Improved and prepared the soil for planting, and planted according to agreed design.
  • Leveled and prepared soil, and laid new turf.
  • Put down layer of Mulch to ensure plants get off to the best start possible. (Mulch also keeps the weeds down!)
  • Install timed irrigation to ensure plants and turf stay properly hydrated while they get established.

Window Box Installation

Highgate

Design and Build Cost: £1800
Our client had old overgrown balcony containers which needed overhauling. We removed the old, bedraggled plants and installed new selection of box ball topiary, hydrangea and cyclamen.

While we were there, we also jet sprayed and disinfected the patio to ensure it was all in tip-top shape!
